JDCE 2: Electric Boogaloo

Given the success of JDCE this season, we've decided to give you an encore, by running a second JDCE duel tournament!

We do anticipate that this JDCE will likely be shorter than the previous, but will no doubt be just as action-packed and exciting!

If you'd like to sign-up, please reply to this newspost by saying "in" to confirm your participation. The deadline for signups is Sunday 2nd August at 23:59 GMT+1.

Information regarding format, mappool etc will be provided at a later date.

EDIT: We've decided to close sign ups early, as a 12 player tournament would be manageable and there haven't been any new sign ups for 24 hours. However, feel free to comment here if you'd like to be considered as a reserve player, in case someone else drops out of the tournament before playing their Round 1 match.

JDCE 31 concludes!

First and foremost, I would like to thank all of the players and staff that made this tournament into the booming success that it was. This was probably the smoothest JDCE yet, and a special shout-out goes to Lahm for his efforts in organization.

But enough of the sappiness, and onto the glory:

  • 1st Place: Lazzaro <400 points>
  • 2nd Place: Lahm <325 points>
  • 3rd Place: kev <275 points>

Congratulations to Lazzaro and all of the runners-up, and congratulations to everyone who participated; you have all been awarded JDC points accordingly.

We'll see you next time, but stay tuned for another special announcement - coming soon from Purplejazz.

JDCE 31 Knockout Phase

The JDCE 31 Knockout Phase has now begun, and we are down to 16 players (from 24).

Notable updates to be aware of:

  • Based on polling, the two least popular maps (Junkyard Blues & Urban Brawl) have been replaced with two others (Gauntlet & Dilapidation).
  • Based on polling (and the addition of new maps), we are allowing every player to reset all three of their vetoes, should they wish to. To update your vetoes, simply cast them privately to myself (and we can try and announce them simultaneously at the time of your first match, if possible), or post them publicly as a comment in this post. You have until Sunday 05th July 23:59 GMT to have cast your vetoes, and completed your first match. Vetoes can only be cast before playing your first match.
  • See the links below for any further updates, and details on who your matchups are against!

EDIT: JDCE points will now be added contemporaneously after each match (in an event named JDCE 31).

Two weeks of JDC 31

Hard to believe we're at the point where in the past few years we would have been either halfway done or close to the end, as it feels like this season is just getting off the ground!

We've already had 8 events in this timeframe, and there's still two coming this weekend. I'm personally very happy with this, not only because it's quite a lot more than we've usually done, but also because there is - at least personally - definitely a vibe of freshness and creativity amongst the officials team. But stay tuned, as I feel that the best is still yet to come this season.

Please let me know in the comments how are you feeling about JDC 31!

PS. Sorry I took so long, but the event from last Sunday has finally been scored.

JDCE 31 begins

This newspost marks the start of JDCE for season 31.

Click HERE for an overview of the rules.

Click HERE to see live standings and matchups required.

Click HERE to see details on map picks and vetoes per player.

As a participant, we need you to:

  • Carefully read all of the rules listed in the link above.
  • Set THREE vetoes from the mappool listed in the rules page above, by commenting on this post before your first match.
  • Play all three matches within your groups before Sunday 21st Jun, 23:59 GMT.
  • Submit your duels by sending screenshots to any official/admin, and having BOTH duel participants to validate their authenticity. Note that is YOUR responsibility to have screenshots as evidence for each of your matches.

Ultimately, the top 2 from each group WILL progress for sure, and only 4 players in 3rd place will be granted access to the next round based on their wins/scores/playoffs.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Lahm or myself.

Starting pistols

JDC 31 has now started!

Well, by "now" I mean "over 24 hours ago, when the opening event concluded". The scores for that event have now been posted, let me know if you can guess the winner before clicking the link.

The event was a big success, with 31 players attending total and 10 rounds, with levels both classic and fresh. Of course any CTF event isn't complete without annoying people with the crate in Divide and Conquer.

In fact, by the time I've written this news post, another event had already taken place! This is the kind of pace you can expect from the coming weeks. We're already drawing plans for making the next weeks full of exciting stuff, and we hope you all enjoy what's in store for this season.

Please let me know if you enjoyed the events in the comments, or on our Discord!

JDCE 31 Signups open!

Hello all,

JDCE signups are now open, please comment on this post saying "in" to confirm you want to participate.

What to expect: a duel tournament whereby there would be a mix of CTF/battle levels. Further information and announcements on the mappool/format are to follow.

The deadline for signing up is: 05/JUN/2020 at 23:59 GMT, and the tournament is projected to start shortly after.

That one David Bowie song

JDC will return for Season 31 on June 6th.

Welcome back! I don't know about you but this felt like a very long year. The fact that I've been isolating from the virus for what feels like two decades doesn't help that.

It is now time for another season of JDC, and once again we're rolling out some changes - you know, gotta keep the audience on the toes a little bit, introduce a little tension here and there, tweak some bonus values a little, that sort of thing, so the tournament never gets too boring...

No duels, 2on2s, or 3on3s this season...

We've been moving towards this direction for some time now, but only now we've finally decided to fully commit. We feel that a duels have long since stopped being the main attraction behind JDC, and the math supports that conclusion - despite tinkering with the scoring system for years, then fully overhauling it a few seasons ago, it proved difficult to maintain a strong level of activity through the years, even as season length has been radically cut from what it once used to be.

...but eventful times are coming

This will allow us to put full focus on what we believe to be the actual focal point of JDC: events, and a lot of them! We'll be checking out as many gamemodes as possible, even those previously thought impossible or forgotten. And, yes, there will be Pit Fight and ODTs too - so don't worry, duels aren't completely gone. Especially because...

JDCE will return

...and will be bigger than ever.

An announcement with sign-ups will follow shortly.

Communication improvements

I'll admit that keeping everybody updated regularly was never our strongest point. We decided to try and solve this by creating a Discord server dedicated purely for JDC, which should ideally become the new "hub" for all discussion regarding events, JDCE, and other things such as a new logo contest(!!)

Click HERE to join the server.

Staff updates

With the new focus on events, we'll be on the lookout for new JDC officials. Expect a post about this soon!

In addition, Seren will be joining the administrator team this season. His contributions to the community as a level designer and programmer have been invaluable, and his tendency to push things beyond their limit his impartial approach, makes him a perfect addition to the position. I trust we'll do great things together!

That's it for now. See you in two weeks, and remember to join the JDC Discord!
