That one David Bowie song
JDC will return for Season 31 on June 6th.
Welcome back! I don't know about you but this felt like a very long year. The fact that I've been isolating from the virus for what feels like two decades doesn't help that.
It is now time for another season of JDC, and once again we're rolling out some changes - you know, gotta keep the audience on the toes a little bit, introduce a little tension here and there, tweak some bonus values a little, that sort of thing, so the tournament never gets too boring...
No duels, 2on2s, or 3on3s this season...
We've been moving towards this direction for some time now, but only now we've finally decided to fully commit. We feel that a duels have long since stopped being the main attraction behind JDC, and the math supports that conclusion - despite tinkering with the scoring system for years, then fully overhauling it a few seasons ago, it proved difficult to maintain a strong level of activity through the years, even as season length has been radically cut from what it once used to be.
...but eventful times are coming
This will allow us to put full focus on what we believe to be the actual focal point of JDC: events, and a lot of them! We'll be checking out as many gamemodes as possible, even those previously thought impossible or forgotten. And, yes, there will be Pit Fight and ODTs too - so don't worry, duels aren't completely gone. Especially because...
JDCE will return
...and will be bigger than ever.
An announcement with sign-ups will follow shortly.
Communication improvements
I'll admit that keeping everybody updated regularly was never our strongest point. We decided to try and solve this by creating a Discord server dedicated purely for JDC, which should ideally become the new "hub" for all discussion regarding events, JDCE, and other things such as a new logo contest(!!)
Click HERE to join the server.
Staff updates
With the new focus on events, we'll be on the lookout for new JDC officials. Expect a post about this soon!
In addition, Seren will be joining the administrator team this season. His contributions to the community as a level designer and programmer have been invaluable, and his tendency to push things beyond their limit his impartial approach, makes him a perfect addition to the position. I trust we'll do great things together!
That's it for now. See you in two weeks, and remember to join the JDC Discord!

JDC Season 30 is now closed for business
After an epic finale, JDC Season 30 has now finally come to an end. Thanks to everyone who made it an enjoyable season, and keep an eye out for Season 31 in the hopefully-not-too-distant future!
However, some JDCE matches are still left to be played, so you are urged to finish those as soon as possible, else inactive teams may be forfeited.
We hope to bring the remaining event scores and the JDC awards as soon as possible.
Closing Event Postponed
The closing event has been postponed until Monday, as I will no longer be available on Sunday evening.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Round 3 is here
We're now into Round 3, which is going to be the final round. There's a good amount of points up for grabs, so it would be well worth your time to play some games if you haven't already.
The closing event will be taking place on Sunday 1st September at 19:00.
Get out there and play some JJ2!
SJ's UPDATE on ODT #5: Postponed to Thursday to give more time to finish and test the newest level features. Sorry for the inconvenience.
JDCE Update (Again)
Due to a lack of availability (again) and communication, Pavlus has been dropped, and now Superjazz is partnered with Seren.
Also, A7med is now with Stefko.

Round 2 Begins
We're now finally in to Round 2! All future rounds including this one will last for two weeks, so this round will finish on Monday 19th August.
Round 2 challenge to be announced. In the meantime we'll see if anyone completed or got close to completing the Round 1 challenge (play team games with at least five unique partners), and those that got reasonably close will receive some extra points.
EDIT: Congratulations to Naps, Ragnarok and STEFKO for completing the Round 1 Challenge! Jelly Jam (Herobrine) came close, having 4 unique team mates, so he receives some partial points too.
JDCE 30 Update
Due to a lack of availability, and agreement by their opposition, Smoke has been dropped, and now Kryzsiek is partnered with Anna.
I understand this may have affected vetoes for certain teams, so all teams (except Krzysiek/Anna) that have played two matches, or are about to play vs the aforementioned team within their first two matches, are allowed to reset one veto with a deadline of 23:59 GMT 05 Aug 2019.
Please note, you must comment which map you are removing as a veto, and which one you are adding as a veto.

The updated teams (and vetoes) are as follows:

Naps + Lynx (EOTM & RPOP)

Lazarro + Hyperion (Stronghold & WW)

The Silver Nemesis
Some time has passed since I've written a news item on JDC. I thought I wouldn't do it ever again, in fact. Truth is, I fully expected to slide into retirement from JJ2, and spend the rest of my days enjoying long drinks at the beach and wearing orthopedic shoes on my way to the pharmacist.
Since my dear friends Ragnarok and PurpleJazz have been moving mountains to keep the duel machine oiled and running, it would be vain of me to assume that my absence has been noticed - so I don't foresee many comments saying "cooba you retired" (and other misspellings of that last word).
I'm doing an exception this season, for a simple reason. In 24 hours from the submission of this news post, Jazz Jackrabbit will be 25 years old. A quarter of a century since a cocky rabbit with floppy body parts and a big compensating gun set out on his interstellar turtle-killing adventure! Can you believe it? Well, not the story, it didn't actually happen, but the anniversary.
To do our part in celebrating the occassion, I'll be hosting an event comprised purely of levels with JJ1 tilesets. The fact that new ones keep coming out reflects well on how good and how beloved the original game remains to this day!
But, that's not all - there will also be a twist involved in the event. That's right, I "invented" a "new" game mode again. I think it's going to be a lot of fun, and I hope to see you all on Thursday evening.
PS. I already have a level list of JJ1-themed levels that's longer than a Leonard Cohen song, but if you have any favorites you'd like to see in the event, leave me a shout in the comments.
Round 1 Extension
We've decided to extend Round 1 by another week until next Monday (5th August) to give players the opportunity to catch up on points.
Anyone dare challenge Jety to the JDC throne?
